FOTD: Camera, You SUCK

Yeah, as the title states, I couldn't get pictures of this at all! In the photos, the Inglot shade looks like a rusty brown when in actuality, it's a peachy pink duochrome. Suck camera sucks.

Oh well, I still post my 'fails' for you guys anyway! It wasn't so much a fail in person, I actually thought it was quite pretty. The farther away, full face shots are more color accurate. I also wasn't a fan of the lip stain I used, it got returned :(. I'm sorry, NYC, but that isn't coral!

FOTD: Intense Smokey Eye w/ Mac Smoked Ruby

I didn't so much intend for this to be Arabesque but it just turned out that way! Smoked Ruby is very intense and over Rust Jumbo Pencil (NYX), it intensified it further. The look was quite dark so I ran with it... and added the hit of orange underneath for some interest. I really like how this turned out, especially with how my camera freaks out over reds and oranges! Could have done with some falsies, but my parents were coming over for dinner ;-)

As a side note, I finally watched Inception (late, eh?). Holy what the hell, Batman! It certainly sparked an interesting discussion afterward and I'll have even more interesting dreams (or will I? Haha!)

Mac Semi Precious Haul + Swatches

I didn't get much, don't worry! Well, I kinda did. I swear, it was my husband's fault. I just wanted Musky Amethyst but then he saw Smoked Ruby and Semi Precious Crystal Pink and he went "you should get those"... my will power was gone.

Anywho, here's what I hauled:

I got the Mineralize Skinfinish in Semi Precious Crystal Pink, Lipstick in Musky Amethyst and Mineralize Eyeshadow in Smoked Ruby.

The left is the outer ring, the middle is the middle part and the right is both mixed.

I'm not normally a fan of Mineralize Skinfinishes. I've had 3 during my love affair with Mac and I've ended up passing all of them onto a more loving owner. They usually just show glittery on me with no color payoff. This one is a bit different. It was $28, and I really struggled with the price initially until I tested it in store. The outer ring is a pinky champagne which I would use as a highlighter. The middle and outside, when mixed, turn into a lovely pinky peach with a bit of bronze (darker than it shows in the picture), that I can use as a blush. The middle is a bronzey brown (a cooler one, which is strange) that I think I can use as a contour or bronzer. So $28 for 3 products isn't THAT bad and the color of the blush is quite unique in my collection. I tried on Rose Quartz and while it was pretty, I felt that it was a bit stereotypical in terms of what I already have in my collection. The other 2 in the collection were pretty, but quite warm toned which didn't suit me.

Oh man, how GORGEOUS is this eyeshadow? I saw swatches before the collection released and had a feeling that I'd love it. The left is a dry swatch and while it's pretty, it doesn't compare to the wet swatch in the middle. I normally don't bother using eyeshadows wet, but this one is so worth it. I'm dreaming of a blackened red smokey eye now! (This was $19.50... a bit ouch)

Ahhh yes, Musky Amethyst. I love you and hate your finish. This is a frost and Mac's frost lipsticks are the bane of my existence. HOWEVER, this isn't frosty, thank goodness. It performs more like a lustre or a cremesheen, probably more like a cremesheen. There's flecks of ruby red suspended in a plummy base... so gorgeous. It's a bit sheered on the lips than I would like, but I feel like it's perfect for a slightly vampy fall lippie. Would be great for someone wanting to get into darker lipsticks but a bit intimidated by them! (This was $14.50)

Overall, I'm pleased with what I got. I haven't had much chance to play with my goodies yet, but I'm sure I'll post some FOTDs once I start using everything!
How about you, what did you haul from Semi Precious? Did you miss out on anything?

Mac Tartan Tale Review, Haul and FOTD

This is a little bit late, I wanted to get this up on Friday but with it being Halloween weekend, I got swamped finding costume bits last minute, baking, going to 2 party things and then doing the whole candy passing out/scaring small children thing...

I will post Halloween pics tonight but for now, here's my haul and review of Mac's latest collection, A Tartan Tale.

I had an idea of what I wanted when I went to the counter. There are A LOT of products in this collection... wow!! I swatched what I could as they were a little busy and with there being so many products, I had to wipe off my hand, swatch more... wipe... and my skin was getting so red lol.

The eyeshadows with the plaid striping. They only had 4 of the 6 as testers :(. I loved the plaid pattern but these swatched poorly. I'm sure they would be better over a base... left to right is Semi Precious, A Wish Come True, Follow Your Fantasy and Enviably Fun.

They were very pretty, I almost got Semi Precious but again... they were swatching so poorly. I didn't want to pay that much and get it home, only to hate it.

Hopefully you can get something out of this mass of swatches.

Left side is the pearlglide eyeliners: Lord It Up, Blackline and Black Swan. Next to them is the swatch of Moonlight Night pigment. Again, pretty but needs a base or to be used wet. I see the idea... may get a sample of it. The pink is Her Blooming Cheek blush; pretty but I already had Sleek Flamingo coming to me which is a hot pink as well.

Below that are lipstick swatches... left is Cut A Caper. This is a really pretty shade but I wasn't sure how it would look on me. The nude is Faerie Glen (love the name!) which is a really nice neutral nude... most of the time nudes can look corpsey or concealer like but this is really natural with a hint of shimmer. The darker shade to the bottom is Deepest Wish, similar to Media but a little more wearable and slightly more plum. If you can see it, there is a faint swatch of My Highland Honey on the bottom left but for some reason, I just couldn't get it to swatch!

I liked some of the individual items but with me being on a budget, I just couldn't justify buying more...

I did do one of the palette swatches (Beauties Play It Cool):

This is on the inside of my arm, 2-3 swipes... and that part of my arm is probably lighter than NC15. The pigmentation is poor, as pretty as the palette is to look at. The lightest shade is on the far left and I cropped it out of the photo because you couldn't even see it! I am a little sad about this as I was so excited for this palette. The grey on the left is Hold My Gaze, and while gorgeous, I couldn't justify $36 for one colour!

So, what -did- I get?

Undercurrent and Lord It Up liners (I love these things, and want more...), Gone Romancin' dazzleglass creme and Courting Lilac lipstick.

Swatches!

Top is no flash, bottom is flash.

The liners really are perfect. I got Petrol Blue from the Art Supplies collection and wanted more. (I want the purple...). I needed a good brown and Undercurrent is just amazing. The combination of teal and gold sparkle is so pretty. These eyeliners are super waterproof which is what I love!

I like the consistency of Gone Romancin (dazzleglass creme) over the last creme I bought, Amorous. I felt like Amorous slid around on my lips too much and once this dries, it really stays put. I love the colour... and just look at the sparkles:

It's a pinky lilac that leans purple or pink depending on the lighting. I think this is the most unique shade of the dazzleglass cremes they released in this collection.

Courting Lilac is so perfect in my opinion -- it's a lustre so it has that glossy finish but has a beautiful gold sheen. I thought it would look similar to Up the Amp when applied but the lustre finish + the shimmer makes it completely different.

I think this is a good collection for collectors or those new to Mac... the pigment sets and palettes are a great value! However, for someone like me with a rapidly expanding collection (I hate buying dupes), I picked select items that I felt were different and stand out.

On to the quick FOTD (this is actually from today), I wanted to use all of my products at once:

I used both liners, Lord It Up close to the lashline and Undercurrent above it :) You may have to blow up the pics to see it.
