MUA Pro Palette 'Poptastic' Review + FOTD

Pop pop pop pop...

Well, we certainly have a bright one here!

This palette caught my eye because of the bright colors and yes, just look at them! This has an interesting array of mostly cooler shades (a lot of blues) but also a reddish pink, pale yellow and a gold thrown in. The gold in this is similar to the gold in the Dusk 'til Dawn palette and I'm pretty sure one of these blues/teals is similar too.

The MUA Pro line is a new line through the Makeup Academy. It's available at Superdrug stores (certain locations) and online at Superdrug.com. These palettes retail for £4.00, which is about $6.50-$7.00 in USD.

Obviously the packaging on this is the same as the prior palette I reviewed, and you're still getting 12 different colors of eyeshadow.

These swatches are with Too Faced Shadow Insurance.

Booo, the red is more of a pink red but that's ok, it's still decently pigmented! The blue violet looks like their single eyeshadow in shade 9, only slightly less pigmented. The lighter pink is impressive as well... usually light pinks aren't very pigmented.

Top photo is natural light and bottom is flash, just so you can see all of the colors together:

Pigmentation on this palette varies, especially in comparison to the Dusk 'til Dawn palette. The blues are great, with the exception of the farthest right navy shade. Both pink/reds are good but what is lacking is the purples. I didn't have too much of an issue with the red-violet until I used it in a look. It was very difficult to blend out and get even! I still like the palette, I just feel that there are some trouble shades in the mix.

I'll be honest, I don't think this is an absolute must-have palette! I like it and I think some of the colors are lovely, but I think you're better off saving a few extra pounds and getting Curacao from Sleek, if it's still available in your area. Otherwise, for brights, this isn't too shabby.

My FOTD is completely random and I'm really not a huge fan of it! I feel like it needs a cut crease with a purple eyeliner but I simply didn't have time to bother with it. I used the following colors:

FACE:
- Cover Girl Tinted Moisturizer in Fair to Light
- Maybelline Superstay Concealer in Cream
- Maybelline Dream Mousse concealer in Ivory
- Mac MSF Natural in Light Medium
- Mac MSF in Semi Precious Crystal Pink (highlighter portion only)

EYES:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk
-MUA Pro Palette in Poptastic (shades shown above)
- Revlon matte eyeshadow in Vintage Lace
- Almay Intense I-Color Eyeliner in Purple Amethyst
- MUA eyeliner in Lovely Lilac (lower lashline, you can't see it!)
- Maybelline The Falsies mascara (Black Drama)

LIPS:
- Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Nearly There
- Hard Candy Glossaholic in Chill

What do you think? Fail or awesome?

FOTD: Flirty... Twilight? (Burgundy)

Quick post as I've gotta run and do some grocery shopping, this was a quick look I tossed together with my new Ulta goodies. Honestly, I think the look is a bit of a fail; the taupe didn't want to show, the burgundy shade isn't as pigmented as I hoped but it's still pretty, and the gel liner is quite possibly the weirdest consistency EVER. It's like... mousse... in eyeliner form. Strange but pretty decent pigmented. Will do a better review later!

FACE:
- Cover Girl Aqua Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer in Fair to Light
- Mac MSF Natural in Light Medium
- Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer in Light
- Hard Candy Glamoflauge concealer in Light
- Mac MSF in Semi Precious Crystal Pink

EYES:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- Essence eyeshadow in Mystic Purple
- Ulta eyeshadow in Flirty
- Ulta eyeshadow in Twilight
- MUA eyeshadow in Shade 9
- Ulta gel liner in Smoke
- Maybelline One by One mascara (black)

LIPS:
- Mac Dazzleglass in Funtabulous

Mac Semi Precious Haul + Swatches

I didn't get much, don't worry! Well, I kinda did. I swear, it was my husband's fault. I just wanted Musky Amethyst but then he saw Smoked Ruby and Semi Precious Crystal Pink and he went "you should get those"... my will power was gone.

Anywho, here's what I hauled:

I got the Mineralize Skinfinish in Semi Precious Crystal Pink, Lipstick in Musky Amethyst and Mineralize Eyeshadow in Smoked Ruby.

The left is the outer ring, the middle is the middle part and the right is both mixed.

I'm not normally a fan of Mineralize Skinfinishes. I've had 3 during my love affair with Mac and I've ended up passing all of them onto a more loving owner. They usually just show glittery on me with no color payoff. This one is a bit different. It was $28, and I really struggled with the price initially until I tested it in store. The outer ring is a pinky champagne which I would use as a highlighter. The middle and outside, when mixed, turn into a lovely pinky peach with a bit of bronze (darker than it shows in the picture), that I can use as a blush. The middle is a bronzey brown (a cooler one, which is strange) that I think I can use as a contour or bronzer. So $28 for 3 products isn't THAT bad and the color of the blush is quite unique in my collection. I tried on Rose Quartz and while it was pretty, I felt that it was a bit stereotypical in terms of what I already have in my collection. The other 2 in the collection were pretty, but quite warm toned which didn't suit me.

Oh man, how GORGEOUS is this eyeshadow? I saw swatches before the collection released and had a feeling that I'd love it. The left is a dry swatch and while it's pretty, it doesn't compare to the wet swatch in the middle. I normally don't bother using eyeshadows wet, but this one is so worth it. I'm dreaming of a blackened red smokey eye now! (This was $19.50... a bit ouch)

Ahhh yes, Musky Amethyst. I love you and hate your finish. This is a frost and Mac's frost lipsticks are the bane of my existence. HOWEVER, this isn't frosty, thank goodness. It performs more like a lustre or a cremesheen, probably more like a cremesheen. There's flecks of ruby red suspended in a plummy base... so gorgeous. It's a bit sheered on the lips than I would like, but I feel like it's perfect for a slightly vampy fall lippie. Would be great for someone wanting to get into darker lipsticks but a bit intimidated by them! (This was $14.50)

Overall, I'm pleased with what I got. I haven't had much chance to play with my goodies yet, but I'm sure I'll post some FOTDs once I start using everything!
How about you, what did you haul from Semi Precious? Did you miss out on anything?
