Wet n Wild Dancing in the Clouds Trio Review + FOTD

Mai from Portrait of Mai was SO nice to CP a few of the Wetnwild Dream Weaver's trios for me and a few others :). So here I am reviewing one of the most popular ones -- Dancing in the Clouds!

Even before these released, this palette got a lot of hype. I'm assuming because of the color combination and that lovely purple in the middle; it's just not something you see every day. When the palettes launched, many people had difficulty finding them, myself included. No real explanation can be given other than limited product and retailers having to choose where they would put these out on display. I have not seen them near me at all!

If you do manage to find them or a CP, these retail for $2.99. Wet n Wild goes on sale relatively often for buy one, get one free or buy one, get one 50% off, and you can find $1-$2 off coupons floating around the net pretty often.

There's not much to say about the packaging. This packaging has been standard for their trios for quite some time. It's not luxe looking but for $2.99, it works.

Top is natural light and the bottom is flash.

The first shade on the left ('browbone') is a dirtied champagne with a slight taupe tinge. Under flash, a bit of pink and green sparkle comes out. This shade swatches and applies like absolute butter and has a slight metallic quality.

The shade on the far right ('eyelid') is a beautiful orange copper. It looks pale in natural light but is much more intense under flash. This one has the strongest metallic finish of the three shadows, and consequently, is the most pigmented.

The shade in the middle ('crease') is the most disappointing one in the group, and quite frankly, in the three palettes that I got. It appears to be a blue tinged matte violet in the pan but swatched, it goes pink and has very little pigmentation. This is a bit confusing as WetnWild has put out many excellent purples... not sure what went wrong here.

Overall, I really like the browbone and eyelid shades in this palette. A copper is not common at the drugstore and the dirtied shade pairs well with it. I am, however, not happy with the purple, as stated above. I feel like Wet n Wild dropped the ball here and I'm not sure why! You can swipe into it with a stiff brush and get a ton of eyeshadow on, but it just doesn't apply with much density. The way I used it in a look isn't bad, and I found the look quite pretty, but I just wish it was a better purple!

I did a look with this and used the browbone shade on the lid, the eyelid shade in the crease, and darkened the crease with the purple. I like the effect and I think in this case, the purple works for a slight 'ethereal' effect, as I'll call it. But, if you want something to darken your crease... look at another eyeshadow. The purple you see in this look is 5 layers with a very dense brush.

Last thing, I have to apologize for my face. I'm noticing all the slight breakouts and unevenness, and even though I applied undereye concealer, I've got bags! I've been a little stressed recently but I'm trying to pull through. I hope you enjoy anyway :) (PS: Blow up the lips picture... LOOK AT THE FLAKIES)

  1. UNF. Well, the lip combo worked. Sucks balls about the purple but that brow shade is pretty awesome.

  2. I was just looking at this trio at Walgreens and passed it...it's pretty but what a shame about the middle shade! I think it's the least pigmented color I have seen in any of the recent Wet n Wild trios. Love your eye makeup and the lips!

  6. I was so excited when I got these last month, but I was soooo disappointed in the purple as well! It was the only reason I bought the palette as I have the other two colors already. Oh well!

  11. I love the colours in this trio and your look turned out really well despite the issues with the purple shade. It's really too bad about the purple because the other two shades are just fabulous.
