NOTD: Pink Glitter (and some chatty bits)

I felt like painting my nails for once last night -- I hadn't been feeling up to it lately as a polish I used stained my nails so badly and I just wanted to let my nails breathe. Here's what I did:

Just a little close up for ya, as well! I used Sinful Colors Cream Pink (yes, that's the name of it) as a base, and a Forever21 glitter over top. I wish I could tell you the name, but it's simply called 'multi' on my bottle. Real helpful. I can't even find it on the website... it was actually the last one left at my local store. It's 2 coats of each polish, and both are pretty pigmented! I absolutely love the glitter.

If you really need glitter, try this one: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=beauty_nails&ProductID=1078999739&VariantID=

That's it for the makeup/nails bit -- I wanted to mention something else that's pretty awesome too. I already talked about it on Twitter and Facebook, but for those who don't know -- I'm assisting a local library with an SFX makeup class for teens in a couple of weeks! I'm really excited to be doing something like this. Further, one of the people involved was interested in having me teach classes on classic makeup for teens! (That's really what I wanted to say!). I'm honoured for the opportunity and I hope it works out because it's sounds amazing.

Well, I'm off... my mother in law arrives in a few hours and I'll bet a bit busy spending time with her and her boyfriend. I'll still be posting, just not as frequently. I've also got some guest posts coming up so stay tuned!

xx

Altered Ego Cosmetics 3 Furies + Evil Women Collections Review + FOTD

I've had the opportunity to test and review Altered Ego's newest collections -- the 3 Furies Mini Collection and the Evil Women Collection. I'm going to review each of them for you!

Tessa sent it along with a cute little note, glittery black baggies and an ingredient list. I wasn't expecting to receive this so it was a lovely surprise in my mailbox! If you want what I actually received, the sampler set of both collections is available for $10 here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/82894488/3-furies-and-evil-women-collections

Each of the clamshells contain 1/8 teaspoon of pigment, which doesn't sound like much, but there's a lot in each one of these!

Let's talk first about the 3 Furies Mini Collection:

The three colors in this collection are: Alecto, Tisiphone and Megaera. Tessa and Whittney took inspiration from what each Furie does, mostly in terms of punishment. I'll talk more about the Furie versus the color with the swatches.

Alecto is a blood red with slight pink shimmer. This is probably my favorite of the three! Alecto punished 'anger' crimes, so red is quite appropriate.

Tisiphone is a medium lilac-purple with blue shimmer and slight pink shimmer as well. I love the dusky quality of this.Tisiphone punished murderous crimes.

Megaera is a deep blue with slight purple tinge, and lots of blue sparkles. Megaera was all about envy crimes, so the deep tone is interesting (in that it isn't green!).

I think that this a great mini collection! The colors would look great alone or all together. I'm gonna try a smokey eye with Megaera and Tisiphone.

Onto the Evil Women Collection, which has five shadows.

The colors are: Erzsebet, Salome, Vera Renczi, Lucrezia and Morgan Le Fay. This little collection is really interesting, not only in concept... but they are also including a little skeleton key with each set purchased, which is a great touch! Tessa and Whittney felt like these ladies were 'the most evil of all' and decided to take inspiration from a trait about each woman. I will admit to only recognizing a few of the names here, but the website has a little description of each one to give you more information. Again, a nice touch!

Erzsebet is a shimmering white with pink undertones. This is really soft and lovely. Erzsebet is more familiar to you by the name of Elizabeth Bathory, or 'Countess Bathory'. They made it this tone as she wanted to have pale, creamy skin and bathed in the blood of her victims to keep her youth.

Salome is a golden yellow with silver sparkle. There is a slight mustard tone to this.

Vera Renczi is a red-orange with brownish tones. It again has that dusky quality that Salome has where it leans slightly towards rust. This lady killed her victims with arsenic, and they made this shade to mimic its tone.

Lucrezia is a shimmery green, it has a hint of olive to keep it interesting. They refer to this as the 'color of the poison she used on victims'.

Morgan Le Fay is a stunner -- my favorite of all of the colors I received! This looks similar to Lucrezia but has more of a blue/teal undertone. Absolutely beautiful.

Overall, really fascinating collections! I love where the inspiration came from and the thought that was put into the colors and naming them. Morgan Le Fay is a must-have, in my opinion. I also think Alecto and Tisiphone are really lovely.

I did a FOTD with Erzsebet, Lucrezia and Morgan Le Fay. I used Erzebet on the lid, Lucrezia in the crease and Morgan Le Fay to darken the crease. On my lips is Darling Girl's Ghouls Gone Wild Lip Jelly. I thought the green and pink tones in the gloss went well!

Whimsy Beading Custom Earrings Review

Kelly from Whimsy Beading is one of the nicest people I've ever met, and what I'm about to share is something that still makes me GUSH when I think about it.

A little while back, Kelly tweeted about some almonds from Trader Joe's and how she desperately wanted a few bags. I live relatively close to one and go every few weeks, so I offered to pick some up. She offered earrings in exchange. Earrings for almonds? Fine by me!

Throughout the development process, she asked me about color, shape, and what style I wanted. I let her have the reins and decide what she wanted to make me. She posted a link of an earring chain of leaves which I thought was lovely, and she ended up incorporating it into the design. Shortly before I received the finished set, she posted this on her Etsy shop:

"Wendora"? OHMIGOSH. How sweet is that? They are just gorgeous, seriously.

I received them in a cute little purple box with her logo on the front:

There was also a note and business cards inside, which are now in my business card case to be passed out anytime someone flags me down and wants to know what earrings I'm wearing. I've been wearing them every day for three days because I seriously love them, and it was so sweet of Kelly to make me such beautiful jewelry.

The earrings are very sturdy and the wire is delicate but easy to push through your ear. I find that sometimes cheaper jewelry is made with such a thick wire that it's uncomfortable to thread them through your ear. I've also got extremely sensitive skin, to the point of bleeding if a metal is cheap enough, and these have caused no irritation, itching or discomfort while I was wearing them. That says a lot considering how allergic I am to most metals (and everything else).

The beadwork is beautiful and intricate, I've not seen something so small be so well done before. Beading can sometimes be clunky or weird looking but on these, the swarovski crystals weave in perfectly with the beads. The color is a mix of purple and blue, which blends nicely with the purple-blue-green shift of the crystals.

Overall, color me very impressed, and honored to have something in a shop that was named and inspired by me. I can't think of a greater compliment! I will be ordering again around Christmas as I know a lot of lovely ladies that need some of her jewelry in their lives.

Do check out her shop on Etsy here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/whimsybeading and support an extremely talented jewelrymaker!

DISCLAIMER: Earrings were provided free of charge by Whimsy Beading in exchange for items that I sent to her. I received no monetary compensation for this review and it does not change my opinion of the earrings.

FOTD: Got 15 minutes in the morning?

Well, on this morning I did. It takes quite a few minutes to do my eyebrows, so that really leaves only 10 minutes for the rest of my makeup. I wanted to use DG's Apparition (it's gorgeous!) and Wicked Game balm... so here's the look!

GIVEAWAY (Twitter): RT and follow @CydonianMU to win 1 bottle of Revlon Facets of Fuchsia! Winner at 10:00AM EST on October 4.

Good luck to anyone who enters :)

Onto the FOTD! This is from over the weekend but I haven't had time to post it. I wanted to use my new Mac lipstick and some Darling Girl eyeshadows (are you surprised?) and this is what I came up with. I really love Corpse Candle -- it's a greyish shade with subtle purple shift and it's just lovely. The entire look is relatively subtle as I was going out for the day and didn't want anything high maintenance. I love Plum Bright, it's as if you've bitten into a plum and stained your lips with the juice! My only complaint is the wear time. It wanted to stick on through eating, but even just wearing it without anything pressing against my lips, it was fading noticeably.

FOTD: Dark Halloween

This is probably my favorite of the DG Halloween looks I've done all week! Purple and red is always a cool combination but the red shift in Jack's Lantern pairs perfectly with Scream Queen. The loose red glitter in Dream Scream works as well, you just can't really see it in photos. I really do love this look -- I think it's going to become a go-to smokey eye for me.

For inspiration, I definitely used Mandy at Pretty Making. She probably does the most beautiful smokey eyes. Ever. I'm usually not a big fan of them on myself but since reading her blog consistently the last few months, she's made me want to wear them more often!
