Sinful Colors Magnetic Polish Review

I know I haven't been around much but this review had to be done. I couldn't find many (well, any, really) other reviews on Google so I figured this had to happen to prevent anyone else from spending (read: wasting) money on this product.

I found a huge display of these at Target on a new Sinful stand. I was pulled toward this color right away, it seemed really unique. On top of it, this magnet was a star pattern instead of the bog standard wavy line thing. The shade I picked up is Polar Opposites.

Now, I wouldn't consider myself a noob at nail polish, not even at magnetic polish. I put my usual gel base coat down and let it dry completely, and then went away to paint my nails. First off, the magnet is practically glued into the top, and I quite literally nearly lost a nail trying to pull it off from the bottle cap. I put on a thin layer and then placed the magnet above my thumbnail immediately. The polish was decently opaque in one coat, except... nothing happened. I did one more thin coat (nice thing about magnetic polishes) and tried again. That time, the magnet was too strong and nearly pulled color from my entire nail. Needless to say, it was a chore. The magnet switched between simply not working, to working too well and pulling color unevenly.

Sorry for the lack of clean up, I'm not keeping this on anyway.

The polish was just... poor. Maybe it's this color, but there are weird random teal sparkles scattered on my nails, and some parts are grey, some are an inky charcoal with the sparkle, and other areas are nearly black with the teal sparkle. It looks really uneven and like a child painted my nails. I tried to get a picture of it here...

The real problem is when I tried to use my top coat. I've used 2 other brands of magnetic polish and not had an issue, but this polish smeared horribly once top coat was applied. It also would not dry, even with my top coat being fast dry, and waiting about 15 minutes.

Yeah. It's not cute. Not even worth $1.99. Boo on you, Sinful. No bueno. I much prefer the Boots version. Save your money!

  2. What the hell? This is like, the shittiest magnetic polish I've ever seen! I've only got the 17 ones to compare, true, but WTF, Sinful?!

  4. thanks for the review. I just tried my first magnetic polish a few days ago. Not worth the trouble in my opinion. And this just looks like it makes it worse.

  5. This is odd, I love this polish! I have had this nail polish for a while now and used it multiple times, and I think mine look great. I had none of the problems you talked about with the uneveness and the only time the magnet pulled the nail polish off of my nail was because i applied too thick of a coat and held the magnet too close. Also, from reading on different websites, I think it might help your smearing problem if you try a different top
It interesting that a product like this could get such different reviews, im sorry to see it didnt work as well for you!
At least it was only $2 :)

    1. I just put this on, and I love it! It is gorgeous! Like Turquoise Opal and silver. Plus the magnet is great.

But...you do not use quick dry top coat with magnetic polish.

  8. I LOVE Sinful Colors, but I am not interested in the magnet shades. And they are twice as expensive.

  9. I had this problem with a crappy magnetic polish, too. The design looked awesome, but when I put a top coat over it everything smeared and looked like a mess. ARGH!!

  10. It's a shame you couldn't make it work. I have it and it's STUNNING. Takes a few tries, but when you get it...WOW.

  11. I bought the sally hansen magnetic and I loved it, but hated to spend $9 every time I wanted a new color. I love that sinful colors has more color selection and the price was nice, but I hated the magnet. It was too hard to use and did not give the starburst effect I wanted. I loved the color, Polor Opposites, though. It's pretty enough without the magnetic effects. The sally hansen magnet works beautifully on the sinful nail polish so I can still get the magnetic effect without any fuss using the other magnet!

  13. I have the magnetic polish in Its Electric (number 1155). It does kind of take a little to get it perfect. I use NYC New York Color in a minute quick dry as my top coat and had no smearing. It didn't do 2 coats of the polish just 1 coat and then quickly placed the magnet over my finger for about 20 seconds or so and let it dry.
