Upcoming Posts: If You're Interested :)

I have a ton of upcoming posts for you guys! Remember how I said that I didn't really have any new products and was sort of not wanting to show FOTDs with the same old same old?

I lied.

In the span of 3 days, I have more "hauls" and new makeup lined up at once than I think I EVER have... so a basic run down of what's to come:

- Sleek Acid Palette Look #3: This will be the last of that series for at least a week or two. I have so many other things to post about... mostly because I bought SO many palettes, need to do looks with them. I'll also have you know that I forgot my brushes today and plan on going home and still cranking out the look at 6PM -_-
- Halloween Party Makeup: I'm doing a masquerade, so will be sure to post outfit, mask and makeup pics of me AND the hubby!
- Stila Backstage Palette Review + Looks: Dunno if this will be two posts yet or not... one for the review and one for looks, or if I will include one look in the review... you get the point.
- Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Singles Review: I have 3 more for you and they're all pretty amazing! One of them is a dupe for Mac but better, go figure!
- Wet n Wild Vanity Palette Review + Look: All of the 6 pan palettes are on clearance at Walgreens... so if you live in the states, go nab them for $2.49.
- Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy Holiday Palette + Look: I found themmmm! I got 3 of the 4 (the 4th had blues and greens which I have a ton of, but I may get because 3 look like Mac dupes...). This is the purple set, comparable to the Beauties Play It Cool palette from Tartan Tale.
- Wet n Wild Golden Goddess Holiday Palette + Look: This is the gold one!
- Wet n Wild Night Elf Holiday Palette + Look: Did you scoff at the name like I did? Any ex or current WoWers out there will get it. But this is the one with the red eyeshadow... mmmm...
- E.L.F. Eyes and Tools Product Review: I took part in their 50% off eye products and hauled 13 items to review :) I will do a bulk review instead of killing you guys with single posts, and probably a few looks with each. Because many of the products I got aren't stand alone, complete FOTD compatible, they will probably be combined looks with other brands.
- Sleek Bad Girl Palette Review + Look Series: YAAAY. I love RaeRae from Red Lipstick and Black Liner :D
- Haul from *drumroll* England: Rob's mum is sending me a load of stuff... MUA, Collection 2000... are you excited? I sure am.
- Evil Shades Review: I did a very, very small order and will be showing some looks and a review!
- Urban Decay Naked Palette Series of Looks: No promises on this one, but it's in my head
- Bird Series: This probably won't be until mid to late November. I wanted to do it sooner but needed some new colours for a few of the birds :)

I have no idea how I ended up with so much makeup...

I've got one other upcoming post that I am VERY excited about... but will keep you all guessing :)

Hope you enjoy everything I've got planned!

Sleek Acid Palette: Look #2

Today's look was sort of thrown together...

Something has happened with my camera so I have to caution you about the absolutely wretched photos. It's like all of my settings reset and my flash is overexposing everything. I did a bit of color correcting before uploading these. No close up eye shots either because not only did I have a little fall out, my lens would not focus to do close ups. Meh. Not pleased. I want a new camera...

- CoverGirl Tinted Moisturizer in fair to light
- Mac Studio Fix power NC20
- Sleek Rose Gold blush (LOVE!)

Sleek Acid Series: Look #1

I'm gonna try to keep up with this series... we'll see how long it lasts...

I did a hot pink and purple look with the palette yesterday, that I forgot to photograph, and wanted to do another look today to start the series. I realized that I hadn't used the army green colour AT ALL since I got it so I wanted to use it somehow. Honestly, the Acid palette had some cohesiveness issues, even though it's awesome. So I turned to Rob and he suggested a colour combo... here's how it came out:

This one was a little hard to photograph as usual, the pink wanted to be colour corrected. I still haven't decided if I like it.

FACE:
- Mac Studio Fix Power NC20
- Sleek Rose Gold blush (LOVE!)
- Maybelline Super Stay concealer "Cream"

EYES:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- Sleek Acid darker pink (upper left)
- Sleek Acid silver
- Sleek Acid army green
- Revlon matte e/s in Vintage Lace
- Maybelline The Falsies mascara
- Matte black from Sleek Acid (as liner)

LIPS:
- Viva Glam Gaga lipstick
- NYX Chestnut lipgloss

I'm really loving that lip combo atm, it's a golden pink with a slight coral tinge!

Not the best photographs, but you get the idea. Thanks for looking!

China Glaze Awakening Swatches + Review

So a couple of weeks ago, I won the lovely Lady Mariana's China Glaze Giveaway... (Her blog is here). I got my items in the mail yesterday and was eager to swatch them!

First off, I love the packaging. The model wearing Zombie Zest is totally hot.

You get 3 colours -- Mummy May I (cute name), Zombie Zest and Ick-A-Body (again, kinda cute), and also a Fast Forward Top Coat. It's a full size, which is a good deal. I'm going to try it out and post a quickie review of it after a few uses... never tried it!

Now for bottle porn and swatches. I have two swatch pics, the top will be non-flash, and the bottom will be flash. You'll have to excuse my not-so-great swatches. I'm A) not an experienced nail polish swatcher and B) I have no remover with me and had no way of cleaning up without picking at my nails.

Ick-A-Body:
This is a black base with orange hexagonal glitter. I love this even though some would consider it cliché. Sure, it's typical Halloween colours, but I think it could work just as a fall colour. This one is different from Mummy May I, which I will show later. This one is predominantly glitter. The picture is 3 coats, no top coat, but was opaque in only 2 coats.

Mummy
May I: This is a base base with fuschia/purple hexagonal glitter inside. This is different from Ick-A-Body in that the base is more like a jelly. It's strange... the glitter is more sparse, but when you put the bottles side by side... they look as though they should be the same. I am not sure whether China Glaze was going for the more sparse glitered jelly like look, or if that was an accident. Because of the jelly quality of the base, this one took 3 coats. The photo is 3 coats, no top coat.

Zombie Zest:
This is an olive/mossy green base packed with green, gold, brown and aqua shimmer. Yeah, say that 3 times fast. This color is fantastic! I will admit that on the first coat, I thought it was disgusting. It looked like baby poo. But, on the second and third coats, the deeper green base and sparkles came through and made it look more solid (instead of like a zombie barfed on your hands). This one is much smoother than the other 2, you could go without a top coat if you had to. I think this is definitely my favorite.

Overall, another solid release from China Glaze. All 3 definitely get my approval. I like that they are obviously Halloween but could be worn in the fall/winter season and still be appropriate. I think I will be rocking Ick-A-Body on Halloween night :)

Let me know if you have any questions... do you have this set? What do you think of the colours?

Oh AND... what are YOU going as for Halloween? Let me know!

Maybelline SuperStay 24HR Concealer - First Impressions

I don't know if any of you know this, but I am on a bit of a budget. In case you haven't noticed, I haven't been posting much, that's really because my FOTDs are quite similar as I haven't been buying any new products lately. I don't want to bore you with the same old, same old.

For over a year, Mac's Select Moisturecover concealer was my go to concealer for undereye circles and redness around my nose and mouth. I also have Studio Finish but I only use that for the rare blemish or mark. Select Moisturecover is $16.50, and at the time I was buying it, I had an employee discount so I didn't think much of it. Now that I'm on a budget and no longer get said discount, it was time to consider a cheaper alternative.

I had heard a while ago that the Maybelline SuperStay line's concealer was very similar to Mac. I honestly hadn't done much research and set off on my lunch break to a drugstore to see what I could find. The concealer was $7.99 at Walgreens... not bad compared to paying $16.50. The problem I immediately saw was the color selection. 5 colours. I think 10 would have been more appropriate for a good range. Not only are darker tones really not covered, the-fair-toned-but-not-pale-white ladies are going to have a problem finding a shade as well.

I reached for the lightest, Ivory, because I am only the 2nd darkest shade in Mac. Shame on me for forgetting that Mac doesn't favor very pale ladies very well... so me being the 2nd darkest shade makes me "not that pale" (even though I think I'm pretty pasty). I should have known just from looking at the tube that it would be too light...

That's my Mac NW20 on the left... the Maybelline Ivory on the right. Good god. That concealer is WHITE. I know very few people that could wear that without looking ridiculous. I will say that I tried it out anyway, and the lightness did help to brighten my undereye area, but it looked ghastly unnatural in sunlight.

I switched up on ya'... the Maybelline is on the right, Mac on the left. Notice how the Mac has a pinkish general skin tone to it... I think that is a downside with that shade of the Maybelline. Even if you are very fair, your skin is still going to have a yellow or pink cast, and that shade is just straight ivory white. I don't think anyone could really wear it easily unless they put foundation straight over top.

So I went back to Walgreens, brought my Mac concealer with me this time to compare, and picked out the next darkest shade... (120), Cream. Okay, my skintone is sort of "cream" coloured... I can see where they're going with this. This seemed like a better match, though something was still off between the two:

You can't tell as much in the camera packaging pictures, but you can definitely tell in the swatch.

I couldn't put my finger on it until I realized that the Maybelline's consistency is sort of like a liquid foundation. The Mac is like a thinner version. This is why the colours are slightly off between the two brands. I think that Cream is a good colour for anyone NW/NC15-20, maybe 25. The next shade darker would suit 30+, so 25s may be a screwed with this line.

Anyway, onto the performance. This stuff is serious! For $7.99, I am impressed. I will say that the formula is a little drying... I am going to purchase a concealer brush (or try and fix the one I ruined) to use this with. I was comfortable using my hands with the Mac one but this is a little too thick and dry, and I don't feel I have enough control with fingers. It covers very nicely once it's blended however, and my dark circles are not only concealed but brightened as well, which is something I need in the winter.

I think older ladies with heavy dryness under their eyes may want to steer clear of this, or heavily moisturize beforehand.

After applying it to my undereyes and under my nose/around my mouth, I decided to take it for a quick test run on my nose. I have a scar/birthmark that is a medium red tone on the tip of my nose (you may have noticed it in FOTD shots). I generally don't cover it... but just wanted to see...

I can only "see" it because I know where it is. I can't believe a drugstore concealer covered that thing! The outline is still semi noticeable, but not from a distance. I would definitely recommend this to someone with acne scarring... I think it would make a huge difference.

Overall, recommended for purchase! It takes a little getting used to coming from the Select Moisturecover as the formulas, while a similar idea, are different in the application. But definitely a good alternative, and I am excited to have something that works even better!

$1.99 Taupe? YES PLEASE.

I had seen a random swatch of a taupe eyeshadow, available from the drugstore, for $1.99. I've been slightly obsessed with taupe lately, for some reason, and wanted to go check it out.

Behold:

Wet 'n Wild "Nutty", these are my followers. Followers, I introduce you to Nutty.

It's such an unassuming little package, isn't it? Let's all be friends, because this little guy sure is my new bffl.

Upon swatching, Nutty is more of a silvery taupe. I tend to prefer more bronzey or purpley taupes... but this is genuinely lovely. I've done my FOTD for the past two days with this.

You'll have to excuse the phone pics, my camera simply isn't working right now. It says it needs batteries, I put new batteries in... and it needs more batteries.

Yesterday for my eyes, I tried to use it alone over Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and the only negative I could find was that it did have a lot of silver sparkle fallout. Also, over top of TFSI, it tends to lean very heavily silver... but the brown undertone still showed through... sort of. It was still a pretty look, but not as taupe as I wanted.

Today I tried a different method using a NYX Jumbo Pencil in Iced Mocha. HUGE difference. The silver sparkles stuck to the tackier base and since the base was brown, the taupe really came through.

Compare these swatches (Over Iced Mocha on the left, alone on the right, no base):

See the difference? Now for the terrible FOTD shots...

Is it a dupe for Mac Satin Taupe? In my opinion, it would suffice for someone on a budget. They are both silvery toned taupes... the Mac is obviously higher quality and probably blends like a dream. But if someone needed a taupe fix and had their eye on the Mac shadow... they could easily settle for this and be happy. Nutty's formula is worthy of a higher price tag. I think the color is even closer to Satin Taupe over the jumbo pencil, honestly. So, when you include the cost of the pencil (let's say $4, on the high side)... it's still only $6 versus $14.50. I think it's noteworthy.

Hope you enjoyed and I hope this helped satisfy all of the taupe lovers out there!

FOTD + Haul!

I actually felt like doing makeup yesterday, yay! I really loved how it came out, and I -finally- figured out how to photograph my makeup in the room I'm currently staying in. Apparently, it's a combination of having the windows open in late afternoon (so sunlight but not full on) AND flash, and macro of course. These are probably the most color accurate shots of my makeup I've ever taken. So excited!

The face was the usual, Mac Studio Fix powder, etc... I think I used Petticoat on my cheeks (if you can even see it). On my eyes was mostly all Mac: Suave Intentions, Tilt (grrr bad spot on my left eye, always happens with that damn eyeshadow), Zingy and Deep Truth built up into the crease. I spent a lot of time building the crease on this one, a little at a time. I think I did add a little of the matte navy blue from the Sleek Bohemian palette as well. Mascara is Maybelline The Falsies... umm... lips were simple, just chapstick and Sephora gloss #18 (which they've discontinued, apparently... booooo!)

I just wore this out to a restaurant. We hadn't seen my best friend in ages and I ended up wearing blue, so it was like hmmm... blue eyeshadow? Yes. The waitress complimented me lol.

I did a little shopping as well, as I met a girl friend of mine for coffee. Since there was an Ulta nearby and I happened to have a $5 off $10 purchase coupon, I had to go in. I heard a rumor that they were starting to carry Zoya polishes, which I have been curious about for ages. I was really interested in some of the polishes from Wicked and Wonderful...

Lo and behold, there is a lovely but tiny little display of them near the hair products. EEEEEEK. Wendyjoy. On top of my coupon, they were buy 2, get 1 free. Only pisser was that I wanted Julianne polish, and they were sold out. I got instead:

Kym, Kelly and Edyta

I'm normally not a fan of reds, but Kym is slightly pink toned with a bit of glitter... and I was thinking that GOSH Rainbow would be super pretty over it. Also very christmasey/festive. I wanted Kelly when I originally saw swatches of it, and definitely love it. Very into greys at the moment. Edyta is perfection, omg! It's a deep olive green base with rainbow sparkles... seriously. So pretty. Can't wait to wear these.

Lastly, my nails of the day... 2 coats of LA Splash Golden Seahorse:

That's pretty much it. I'm sitting in the kitchen relaxing the rest of my Sunday away (I'm in pajamas =P). Rob and I did a bit of clothes shopping earlier as Old Navy and Target had some great clearance deals. I got an olive green sweater that I'm not sure about. Maybe I will post a pic and see what you guys think? I dunno if olive green is my colour...

Oh well, off for me now. Rob is making chicken jalfrezi and saag aloo for dinner! Om nom.

Morgana Minerals look + FAIL

I'll show you the "win" first. I wanted to do a MM look because Melissa is creating a photo album for people to post their looks in. I took out my items and ran at it full on... and ended up with a rainbow look :3 I had seen an ad on the television for those rainbow sherbets and this reminded me of them! lol

I will admit that this was hard to photograph. My camera kept red eye correcting the pink so I took numerous shots and got a few that weren't blurred out. Also, the light green is more blended than it shows on camera... (well, it was, makeup is removed now)

I used all Morgana eyeshadows: Coraline, Druscilla's Sister, Ectoplasm, Chameleon Sky, Transylvania Twist, Glitter Ghoul (liner) and Copper Plum glitter over the liner
Lips: Watermelon lipstick

So, now for the fail.

I cannot do smokey eyes to save my life. I had the idea to do a black/purple/orange glitter eye, and it was going great until the Black Bean NYX jumbo pencil began to crease and separate on me... I sort of fixed it, but then I applied a little lash glue to my lid to attach the glitter, and everything went to hell. Apparently my tube of lash glue was bad. It started eating throug the eyeshadow and burning my skin. Oh yes.

Oh well, the eyes looked like crap anyway. You can see my idea but I just can't get dark colours to blend over that jumbo pencil. What am I doing wrong?

Funny faces, here you go:

Those are my nakey eyebrows, btw. Aren't they bad? Yeah... Anyway, this was using Glitter Ghoul, Transylvania Twist in the crease, and Orange glitter over top. Cool idea. Shitty execution. I give up on dark eyes.

Blue Eyeshadow: 2 Ways + Outfits + Wedding Stuff...

I know, I know. I haven't been around. I honestly haven't had much to post as I've been super lazy this week and not really rocking any makeup. I'm making up for it now as I have a ton of stuff to post.

First up, I did two blue eyeshadow looks this weekend. The first is a stronger cut crease look, mostly inspired by Jonna from Nukleopatra (clicky! That's her blog). I love her makeup style so when I looked at the dress I was going to wear, I knew what I wanted to do.

I wore this out to Rob's birthday dinner (outfit to be shown after the FOTD). We were in a bit of a hurry as we had reservations, and so I didn't get many good shots of this. It was hard to photograph anyway. I think I should have used more of a matte navy blue in the crease.

Blehhh. The pics are terrible :(

FACE:
- CoverGirl Tinted Moisturizer - fair to light
- Mac Prism (contour)
- Mac Stereo Rose
- Mac Select Moisturecover NW20
- Mac Studio Finish concealer, NW20

EYES:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- Urban Decay Virgin eyeshadow
- Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow
- Urban Decay Buck eyeshadow
- Darker matte skin tone from Sleek Bohemian palette
- NYX Iced Mocha eyeshadow
- Matte navy blue from Bohemian
- Sparkly dark blue from Sleek Circus
- Maybelline The Falsies mascara
- Matte black from Sleek Circus (as liner)

LIPS:
- Viva Glam Gaga lipstick
- NYX Chestnut lipgloss

I did like my outfit though! You may recall the pic I posted of this dress a while ago... I wore that, with a cardigan you may recognize, and black flats. I'm skipping on showing the flats as they are literally just black, lol. I would normally wear heels out but I knew we'd be traipsing around downtown after dinner.

The cardi is from Wet Seal, the dress is Forever 21 and the necklace I got from The Icing (even though it's crooked in the photos lmao!). I found it last minute as I had nothing to go with the dress... and I love it! It's doubled up and normally lays long (to my ribs)

Next up is a look from today. I did another blue look as I was wearing a new top and a denim skirt... I thought it would look good. I was going out with my parents for Rob's birthday, but it was still daylight so I added some glitter to help convert it to a night time look as well.

FACE:
- Mac Studio Fix powder
- Mac Prism blush (contour)
- Hard Candy Living Doll blush
- Mac Select Moisturecover NW20
- Mac Studio Finish concealer, NW20

EYES:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- Urban Decay Aquarius eyeshadow
- Mac Steamy eyeshadow
- Barry M Aqua Gold dazzledust
- Metallic blue mixed with metallic purple from Sleek Circus (crease)
- Ulta Olive eyeliner
- Urban Decay Distortion glitter liner
- Maybelline The Falsies mascara

LIPS:
- NYX Indian Pink lipstick
- Milani gloss in Movie Star (the blue sparkly one)

I am definitely having coverage issues with both Aquarius and Steamy. These photos were taken after dinner but only 2 hours after application and I already have some creasing :(

Oh and the new top I got from Charlotte Russe... I love the neckline!

That's pretty much it for the FOTDs. I do have two quick outfit photos, apparently the theme of this week was belts:

I'm wearing pants... they're cute in person, I promise. The top on this is really cute, wish I could have gotten better pictures... it's got little zippers down the sleeves!

I cut out my face because I was doing a ridiculous grin in an attempt to be cool. It wasn't :D. I wore this to work with dress pants instead and changed to run a few errands when I got home.

To change the subject again, more wedding stuff! The rings:

My engagement ring is the one towards the tip of my finger. It was so hard to find a band to go with it but we finally did! I love it.

And for those of you who wanted to see our vows... I'm posting pics, you'll have to blow them up to read them:

The only part cut off is the "Now celebrate your life with a kiss" bit. It was on a 4th page and I was literally about to murder my scanner... so I decided it best to just type it in, lol! We admittedly did not write every word of our vows... our celebrant was fantastic and interviewed us, and gave us a basic skeleton that she felt was appropriate (the whole "in this great sea of life" thing is all her). We however did write the declaration of intent ("do you willingly embrace...") and the actual vows ("... this is my solemn vow") and we of course chose the song lyrics.

We are proud of them... hey, they made my parents and two best friends cry :D

Finally, and last but not least, I hit 200 followers! Yaaaaay! Thank you so much to all who have followed me, and welcome to my newer followers :)
