Mac Tartan Tale Review, Haul and FOTD

This is a little bit late, I wanted to get this up on Friday but with it being Halloween weekend, I got swamped finding costume bits last minute, baking, going to 2 party things and then doing the whole candy passing out/scaring small children thing...

I will post Halloween pics tonight but for now, here's my haul and review of Mac's latest collection, A Tartan Tale.

I had an idea of what I wanted when I went to the counter. There are A LOT of products in this collection... wow!! I swatched what I could as they were a little busy and with there being so many products, I had to wipe off my hand, swatch more... wipe... and my skin was getting so red lol.

The eyeshadows with the plaid striping. They only had 4 of the 6 as testers :(. I loved the plaid pattern but these swatched poorly. I'm sure they would be better over a base... left to right is Semi Precious, A Wish Come True, Follow Your Fantasy and Enviably Fun.

They were very pretty, I almost got Semi Precious but again... they were swatching so poorly. I didn't want to pay that much and get it home, only to hate it.

Hopefully you can get something out of this mass of swatches.

Left side is the pearlglide eyeliners: Lord It Up, Blackline and Black Swan. Next to them is the swatch of Moonlight Night pigment. Again, pretty but needs a base or to be used wet. I see the idea... may get a sample of it. The pink is Her Blooming Cheek blush; pretty but I already had Sleek Flamingo coming to me which is a hot pink as well.

Below that are lipstick swatches... left is Cut A Caper. This is a really pretty shade but I wasn't sure how it would look on me. The nude is Faerie Glen (love the name!) which is a really nice neutral nude... most of the time nudes can look corpsey or concealer like but this is really natural with a hint of shimmer. The darker shade to the bottom is Deepest Wish, similar to Media but a little more wearable and slightly more plum. If you can see it, there is a faint swatch of My Highland Honey on the bottom left but for some reason, I just couldn't get it to swatch!

I liked some of the individual items but with me being on a budget, I just couldn't justify buying more...

I did do one of the palette swatches (Beauties Play It Cool):

This is on the inside of my arm, 2-3 swipes... and that part of my arm is probably lighter than NC15. The pigmentation is poor, as pretty as the palette is to look at. The lightest shade is on the far left and I cropped it out of the photo because you couldn't even see it! I am a little sad about this as I was so excited for this palette. The grey on the left is Hold My Gaze, and while gorgeous, I couldn't justify $36 for one colour!

So, what -did- I get?

Undercurrent and Lord It Up liners (I love these things, and want more...), Gone Romancin' dazzleglass creme and Courting Lilac lipstick.

Swatches!

Top is no flash, bottom is flash.

The liners really are perfect. I got Petrol Blue from the Art Supplies collection and wanted more. (I want the purple...). I needed a good brown and Undercurrent is just amazing. The combination of teal and gold sparkle is so pretty. These eyeliners are super waterproof which is what I love!

I like the consistency of Gone Romancin (dazzleglass creme) over the last creme I bought, Amorous. I felt like Amorous slid around on my lips too much and once this dries, it really stays put. I love the colour... and just look at the sparkles:

It's a pinky lilac that leans purple or pink depending on the lighting. I think this is the most unique shade of the dazzleglass cremes they released in this collection.

Courting Lilac is so perfect in my opinion -- it's a lustre so it has that glossy finish but has a beautiful gold sheen. I thought it would look similar to Up the Amp when applied but the lustre finish + the shimmer makes it completely different.

I think this is a good collection for collectors or those new to Mac... the pigment sets and palettes are a great value! However, for someone like me with a rapidly expanding collection (I hate buying dupes), I picked select items that I felt were different and stand out.

On to the quick FOTD (this is actually from today), I wanted to use all of my products at once:

I used both liners, Lord It Up close to the lashline and Undercurrent above it :) You may have to blow up the pics to see it.

FACE:
- CoverGirl Tinted Moisturizer in fair to light
- Mac Studio Fix power NC20
- Mac Petticoat MSF
- Maybelline Super Stay concealer "Cream"

- Mac Undercurrent pearlglide liner

Teehee, it matched my outfit (teal sweater and brown dress pants)

And just for fun, the photo snapped when I started laughing at something:

  1. Wow you swatched quite a bit! Good job :) I personally didn't even go to the store but ordered a few things online. I knew it would be crazy as a lot of people were very looking forward to this holiday collection. I heard a few others not liking the pigmentation in the eye shadows, I almost got the gray one I think it's called Glamora Castle or something. I'm glad I didn't. I mean they all look gorgeous in the pan but if I won't use it...you know how it goes! I love the look you did using these products, very pretty! Courting Lilac goes very well with your complexion! Enjoy your new goodies :)

  2. @Ebru: Thanks :) They didn't have Glamora out as a tester but if it's like the others... plus, when you have something so sheer, everything starts to look the same, especially when you toss shimmer into it! You really wouldn't be able to distinguish the pink and orange, for example, on your eyes.
